William I, Count of Eu, was the illegitimate son of Richard I, Duke of Normandy. He became Count of Eu and Count of Hiémois after the murder of his nephew Gilbert in 1040. William rebelled against his half-brother Richard II, Duke of Normandy, but was captured and imprisoned by Raoul d’Ivry and Turquetil of Harcourt. After escaping five years later, he was pardoned and married Lesceline, daughter of Turquetil.
William and Lesceline had three children, with their son Robert succeeding him as Count of Eu. William died after 1057, and his son Robert took over his titles.
