Thomas de Mowbray, a significant English nobleman and rebel, was the son of Thomas de Mowbray, 1st Duke of Norfolk, and Lady Elizabeth FitzAlan. He inherited the titles of Earl of Norfolk and Nottingham from his father, as well as the Earl Marshal title in an honorary capacity. He was betrothed to Constance Holland but did not marry. His involvement with the Percies’ rebellion led to his raising an army with Richard le Scrope, Archbishop of York, and his subsequent capture and execution. This conspiracy and his execution are depicted in Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part 2.
Death: Thomas de Mowbray died at the age of 19, executed by beheading. He was buried in the Church of the Greyfriars in York.
