Thomas Beaufort, Duke of Exeter

Thomas Beaufort, born circa January 1377 and deceased on 31 December 1426, was a prominent English military leader during the Hundred Years’ War and served for a period as Chancellor of England. He was one of four children of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, and his mistress Katherine Swynford. His birth was legitimized following his parents’ marriage in 1396 and through royal legitimization in 1390 and again in 1397.

Thomas Beaufort married Margaret Neville, the daughter of Sir Thomas Neville of Hornby, and they had a son named Henry Beaufort, who unfortunately died at a young age.
