The Most Reverend Thomas Arundel was born in 1353 in Etchingham, Sussex, Kingdom of England. He was consecrated as a bishop on 9 April 1374 by William Whittlesey. Arundel served as Lord Chancellor and Archbishop of York during the reign of Richard II. In 1397, he became the Archbishop of Canterbury, a position he held again from 1399 until his death. He was a vocal opponent of the Lollards and played a key role in the usurpation of Richard II by his cousin Henry Bolingbroke, who became Henry IV.
Thomas Arundel died on 19 February 1414 at the age of 60 or 61. He was succeeded as Archbishop of Canterbury by Henry Chichele.
