Sweyn Forkbeard

Sweyn Forkbeard was the ruler of Denmark from 986 until his death and briefly ruled as King of England for five weeks before his death. He also held the title of King of Norway between 999/1000 and 1013/14. He fathered King Harald II of Denmark, King Cnut the Great, and Queen Estrid Svendsdatter. His reign saw a revolt against his father, Harald Bluetooth, leading to Harald’s exile and death, and the establishment of Sweyn’s authority over Norway with the help of Eric, Earl of Lade.

Historical sources vary in their accounts of Sweyn’s life, including his lineage and the nature of his rule. He is known for his military and political leadership, as well as his diplomatic skills. Sweyn’s influence extended beyond Scandinavia, eventually leading to his short-lived rule as the first Danish king of England following a protracted campaign.
