John Seymour

Sir John Seymour, born circa 1474, was an English soldier and courtier serving under Henry VII and Henry VIII. He was the eldest son of John Seymour and Elizabeth Darell. Seymour married Margery Wentworth, and the couple had ten children. He was knighted for his services against Cornish rebels at Blackheath and later became a Knight banneret. Seymour participated in military campaigns, including the sieges of Thérouanne and Tournay, and attended significant diplomatic events such as the Field of the Cloth of Gold. His children Edward, Thomas, Jane, and Elizabeth became prominent courtiers, with Jane Seymour rising to become queen consort of Henry VIII. Seymour died on 21 December 1536 and was buried at St Mary’s Church, Great Bedwyn.
