Sir Henry Wentworth

Sir Henry Wentworth of Nettlestead, Suffolk, KB, was born around 1448, the sole offspring of Sir Philip Wentworth and Mary Clifford. His father was a courtier executed after the Battle of Hexham, while his mother descended from nobility. Restored to his father’s lands by Parliament after a pardon in 1462, Wentworth served Edward IV in France in 1475 and was later knighted in 1489. He held several positions of note, including High Sheriff of Yorkshire and Norfolk and Suffolk. Wentworth’s first marriage to Anne Say produced two sons and four daughters, with his second marriage to Elizabeth Neville yielding no issue. His will, dated 17 August 1499, was proved on 27 February 1501, suggesting his death occurred within that timeframe.
