Sir George Howard

Sir George Howard was an English courtier, politician, author, and diplomat, notably serving under four monarchs: Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I. His prominent roles included Master of the Armoury and Gentleman Usher of the Privy Chamber. He was involved in military campaigns, such as Boulogne in 1546 and the Battle of Pinkie in 1547, where he was knighted for his courage. Howard also engaged in diplomatic missions, including one to King Henry II of France. His literary contribution was a masque produced at Edward VI’s court. During Elizabeth I’s reign, he was present at the Kenilworth entertainment of 1575, mentioned in the Langham Letter. In his later years, Howard resided in Kent, contributing as a Justice of the Peace and being recognized for his religious stance.
