Rozala of Italy

Rozala of Italy, also known as Rozala of Lombardy, Rozala of Ivrea, or Susanna of Ivrea, was a noblewoman who became countess consort of Flanders through her marriage to Arnulf II of Flanders, and later queen of the Franks as the wife of Robert II of France. Following her first husband’s death, she served as the regent of Flanders for her minor son, Baldwin IV of Flanders, in 987–988. Her parentage traced back to the royalty of Italy, being the daughter of King Berengar of Ivrea and Willa of Tuscany.

Her second marriage to Robert the Pious, arranged by his father Hugh Capet, made her queen consort, although the union was short-lived and produced no offspring. The couple separated around 991/992, and upon the death of King Hugh in 996, Robert formally repudiated Rozala. She returned to Flanders, where she lived until her death in 1003. Despite their separation, Robert retained control over the territories that Rozala brought into the marriage.
