Richard III was the Duke of Normandy from August 1026 until his death in 1027. He was the eldest son of Richard II of Normandy and Judith of Brittany. In 1026, Richard led a large army to rescue his brother-in-law, Reginald, from captivity in Chalon-sur-Saône. His reign began with a revolt by his brother Robert, who was dissatisfied with his province of Hiemois.
Richard III died suddenly on 6 August 1027, with some suggesting suspicious circumstances. The duchy was then succeeded by his younger brother, Robert I.
