Richard II, "The Good" Duke of Normandy

Richard II, known as the Good, was the Duke of Normandy from 996 until his death in 1026. He was the eldest surviving son of Richard the Fearless and Gunnor. During the early years of his reign, his uncle Count Rodulf of Ivry acted as regent, quelling a peasant uprising.

Richard II had strong religious interests and formed alliances with King Robert II of France and Duke Geoffrey I of Brittany. He provided sanctuary to Vikings, which led to conflict with England, resulting in an English attack on the Cotentin Peninsula. Richard's sister Emma married King Æthelred II of England, strengthening ties between Normandy and England.

Richard II died on 28 August 1026. His eldest son, Richard III, succeeded him as Duke of Normandy.
