Richard Fitzalan, 3rd Earl of Arundel

Richard Fitzalan, 3rd Earl of Arundel, was born around 1313 in Sussex, England. He was the eldest son of Edmund Fitzalan, 2nd Earl of Arundel, and Alice de Warenne. After his father's execution in 1326, he initially did not inherit his father's titles and estates, but by 1330, he began to regain his family's holdings and titles.

Arundel was a military leader during the reign of Edward III, participating in the Hundred Years' War. He was appointed Justiciar of North Wales in 1334 and later became the High Sheriff of Caernarvonshire and Governor of Caernarfon Castle. His naval career included serving as Admiral of the West and participating in the Battle of Sluys in 1340.

In 1347, Richard Fitzalan inherited the Earldom of Surrey, increasing his wealth. He provided large loans to King Edward III while maintaining substantial personal wealth. His marriages to Isabel le Despenser and Eleanor of Lancaster produced several children, including Richard Fitzalan, 4th Earl of Arundel, and John Fitzalan, 1st Baron Arundel.

Richard Fitzalan died on 24 January 1376 at Arundel Castle and was buried in Lewes Priory. He was succeeded by his son, Richard Fitzalan, 4th Earl of Arundel.
