Richard, 4th Earl of Arundel

Richard Fitzalan, 4th Earl of Arundel, was born in 1346 to Richard Fitzalan, 3rd Earl of Arundel, and Eleanor of Lancaster. He succeeded his father as Earl of Arundel in 1376. His brother, Thomas Arundel, held ecclesiastical positions, including Archbishop of Canterbury. At the coronation of Richard II, Richard Fitzalan carried the crown.

In 1377, Richard Fitzalan became Admiral of the North and West, leading military actions such as the attack on Harfleur in 1378. He opposed King Richard II's favorites and participated in the defeat of the King's council at Radcot Bridge in 1387. He was one of the Lords Appellant who condemned the King's favorites in the Merciless Parliament.

Richard Fitzalan was arrested on 12 July 1397 for his opposition to King Richard II and plotting with Gloucester. He was beheaded on 21 September 1397 and buried in the church of the Augustin Friars, London. His son Thomas succeeded him after the attainder was reversed in October 1400.
