Queen Joan of Scotland

Joan of England was born on 22 July 1210 as the third child of John, King of England, and Isabella of Angoulême. Initially, she was promised in marriage to Hugh X of Lusignan, but the arrangement fell through after her father's death. In 1221, she married Alexander II of Scotland, becoming Queen of Alba, and received lands as her personal income.

Joan's marriage to Alexander II did not produce any children, which was a concern at the time. Her English connections were important. She accompanied Alexander to England for negotiations with her brother, King Henry III, over northern territories, and was granted manors in England by her brother.

Joan died on 4 March 1238 at the age of 27 at Havering-atte-Bower, England, and was buried at Tarrant Crawford Abbey in Dorset. Her husband, Alexander II, continued to reign as King of Scotland after her death.
