Anne

Anne was born on 6 February 1665 at St James’s Palace, Westminster, England, during the reign of her uncle King Charles II. She was the daughter of James II of England and Anne Hyde. Raised as an Anglican on the instructions of Charles II, despite her father’s Catholicism, Anne married Prince George of Denmark in 1683. She became Queen of England, Scotland, and Ireland on 8 March 1702 and subsequently Queen of Great Britain and Ireland after the Acts of Union in 1707. Her reign was marked by the favouring of moderate Tory politicians and a falling out with her close friend, Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough. Anne’s health was poor, and she suffered from obesity in her later years. She experienced 17 pregnancies but died without any surviving issue, making her the last monarch of the House of Stuart. Anne passed away on 1 August 1714 at Kensington Palace, London, England, and was buried at Westminster Abbey.
