Mary of York

Mary of York was the second daughter of King Edward IV of England and his queen consort Elizabeth Woodville. She spent her early years in close connection with her older sister Elizabeth of York. Raised and educated together, the princesses were accustomed to frequent relocations between royal residences and participated in court festivities and state visits. They were subject to a strict daily routine and protected vigilantly, with little recorded expenditure on toys for their amusement. During a political conflict, Mary sought asylum with her family in Westminster Abbey, where they stayed for five months. After her father’s restoration to the throne, she was considered as a potential bride in diplomatic marriage negotiations but fell ill and died during the process.
