Mary of Lancaster was the youngest surviving child of Henry, 3rd Earl of Lancaster, and Maud Chaworth. Born around 1320 or 1321, she was a great-granddaughter of Henry III of England. Her siblings included Henry of Grosmont, 1st Duke of Lancaster, and Maud, Countess of Ulster. In September 1334, she married Henry Percy, the eldest son of Henry de Percy, 2nd Baron Percy, at Tutbury Castle.

Mary died on 1 September 1362 at Alnwick, Northumberland, England, where she was also buried. Her husband, Henry Percy, later married Joan Orreby, daughter and heiress of John, 2nd Lord Orreby.
