Mary de Monthermer

Mary de Monthermer was an English noblewoman who became Countess of Fife through her marriage to Donnchadh IV, Earl of Fife. Born to Ralph de Monthermer, 1st Baron Monthermer, and Joan of Acre, daughter of Edward I of England, her life was intertwined with significant historical events. Mary’s early years were marked by her mother’s controversial marriage to Ralph, her father’s imprisonment, and his subsequent elevation to Earl of Gloucester and Hertford. She married at the age of nine and was later involved in the political turmoil of Scotland, including her capture and the trial of her husband for treason.
