Marjorie of Carrick

Marjorie of Carrick, also known as Marjory or Marsaili, was the daughter and heiress of Niall, 2nd Earl of Carrick, and Margaret Stewart. Her maternal grandparents were Walter Stewart, 3rd High Steward of Scotland, and Bethóc or Beatrix Mac Gille Críst of Angus. In 1255, Niall transferred the title of clan chieftain to his nephew Roland due to having no sons. Upon Niall's death in 1256, Marjorie became the 3rd Countess of Carrick. She married Adam of Kilconquhar, who died during the Eighth Crusade in 1271, and they had one child, Martha.

Following Adam's death, Marjorie married Robert de Brus, 6th Lord of Annandale, without the king's permission, resulting in a temporary loss of her lands until a fine was paid. Robert became Earl of Carrick by right of his wife. Marjorie and Robert had several children, including Robert I, King of Scotland. She died before November 1292, after which Robert transferred Carrick to their eldest son, Robert.
