Margaret of England, Duchess of Brabant

Margaret of England was born at Windsor Castle as the tenth child and seventh daughter of King Edward I of England and Eleanor of Castile. She married John II, Duke of Brabant, in 1290 and became Duchess of Brabant in 1294. Her marriage to John was marked by her husband’s infidelities and the presence of his illegitimate children at court. Margaret’s only child was John III, Duke of Brabant. She was known to have been a good-natured and merry child, but her later life at the Brabant court was not as happy. She attended her brother Edward’s wedding to Isabella of France and the subsequent coronation. Margaret died after 1333 and was buried at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels.
