George V

George V, born George Frederick Ernest Albert, was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 6 May 1910 until his death in 1936. Born as the second son of the Prince and Princess of Wales, he was initially third in line to the throne. After serving in the Royal Navy, George ascended the line of succession following his elder brother’s death. He married Princess Victoria Mary of Teck, with whom he had six children. George witnessed significant political changes during his reign, including the rise of various political movements, the fall of other empires, and the redefinition of the British Empire’s relationship with its Dominions. He is known for renaming the royal house to Windsor and for his annual Christmas broadcasts.

George’s naval career spanned from 1877 to 1892, including command of several ships. He was actively involved in the military, but his service concluded with an honorary rank. He faced health issues related to smoking in his later years and was succeeded by his eldest son Edward VIII upon his death. George V was known for his serious demeanor and sense of duty, characteristics that marked his approach to the monarchy and its evolving role during the tumultuous early 20th century.
