John of Brittany, Earl of Richmond

John of Brittany, born around 1266, was an English nobleman and a member of the House of Dreux. He was the second surviving son of John II, Duke of Brittany, and Beatrice of England, making him the nephew of Edward I. Raised at the English court, he entered royal service under his uncle and later served Edward II, becoming the Earl of Richmond in 1306.

John was involved in various military and diplomatic roles, including being named Guardian of Scotland and serving as a Lord Ordainer during the baronial rebellion against Edward II. He was valued for his diplomatic skills by both Edward I and Edward II. Although loyal to Edward II, he eventually supported the coup of Isabella and Mortimer.

John of Brittany died on 17 January 1334 in Brittany and was buried in the church of the Franciscans in Nantes. His title and estates were inherited by his nephew, John III, Duke of Brittany.
