John de la Pole, Earl of Lincoln

John de la Pole, Earl of Lincoln, was a prominent Yorkist leader during the Wars of the Roses. His role expanded significantly following the death of his uncle, Richard III. Initially, de la Pole reconciled with the Tudor regime, but by 1487, he orchestrated a significant Yorkist uprising, aiming to crown Lambert Simnel, who he claimed was his cousin Edward, Earl of Warwick.

De la Pole’s true ambitions remain unclear, with some historians suspecting he may have sought the throne for himself. However, his plans were thwarted when he was defeated and killed at the Battle of Stoke in 1487, marking a pivotal moment in the consolidation of Tudor power in England.
