Isabella of France was Queen of England through her marriage to King Edward II and served as de facto regent from 1327 until 1330. She was the youngest surviving child of Philip IV of France and Joan I of Navarre. Isabella was recognized for her diplomatic skills and intelligence. She played a pivotal role in the overthrow of her husband and was later depicted in literature as a manipulative figure.
Her marriage to Edward II was challenged by the king’s favoritism towards his associates, leading to political strife. Isabella’s relationship with the French monarchy bolstered her authority. She eventually led a mercenary army to depose Edward II in favor of her son, Edward III. Her regency ended in 1330 when Edward III took power, and Isabella was briefly imprisoned before being released.
Death: Died at age 62-63 at Hertford Castle, England. Buried at Grey Friars' Church at Newgate.
