Isabella of Aragon

Isabella of Aragon was born around 1247 or 1248 as the youngest daughter of King James I of Aragon and Violant of Hungary. Her birth was anticipated in her father's will, which was later abandoned, allowing her to marry. In 1258, a betrothal was arranged between her and Philip, the second son of King Louis IX of France, as part of the Treaty of Corbeil.

The formal wedding between Isabella and Philip took place on 28 May 1262 in Clairmont. Philip became the heir apparent to the French throne after his brother's death in 1260. Isabella accompanied her husband and father-in-law on the Eighth Crusade in 1270, and she became Queen of France following King Louis IX's death in August of that year.

Isabella of Aragon died on 28 January 1271 at the age of 24 after a fall from her horse, which led to a premature birth. She was initially buried in Cosenza Cathedral and later in the Basilica of St Denis. Her husband, Philip III, succeeded her as the reigning monarch.
