Isabel de Beaumont

Isabel de Beaumont, Duchess of Lancaster, of the House of Brienne, was born around the year 1320 as the youngest daughter of Henry de Beaumont, Earl of Buchan, and Alice Comyn. She had a total of nine older siblings, one of whom was John de Beaumont, 2nd Lord Beaumont. Her lineage included notable figures such as her paternal grandparents, Louis of Brienne and Agnes, Viscountess de Beaumont, as well as her maternal grandparents, Alexander Comyn, Sheriff of Aberdeen, and Joan le Latimer.

In 1337, Isabel married Henry of Grosmont, the 1st Duke of Lancaster. The couple had two daughters, Maud and Blanche, who later inherited their father’s estates. Isabel’s death occurred in 1361 due to the plague at Leicester Castle, and she was interred at Newark Abbey in Leicester. Her legacy extended through her daughter Blanche to the Royal House of Lancaster, making her the ancestress of Henry IV of England and other notable grandchildren such as Philippa of Lancaster, Queen of Portugal and the Algarve, and Elizabeth of Lancaster, Duchess of Exeter.
