Humphrey, 2nd Earl of Buckingham, was an English peer and a member of the House of Lords. He served as Lord High Constable of England. His lineage traced back to the English royalty, as his father, Thomas of Woodstock, was the youngest son of King Edward III and the uncle of King Richard II.
Following the murder of his father, Humphrey became a ward of the crown, alongside Henry of Monmouth, who would later become King Henry V. Both were taken to Ireland by Richard II in 1398 and remained in custody at Kells when Richard returned to England. After Richard II’s deposition, the new king, Henry IV, ordered their release. However, Humphrey succumbed to illness and died on his way home on 2 September 1399. His mother, Eleanor de Bohun, passed away shortly thereafter.
