Henry V Holy Roman Emporer

Henry V, born around 11 August 1081 or 1086, became King of Germany in 1099 and was crowned Holy Roman Emperor in 1111. He was the last ruler of the Salian dynasty and was made co-ruler by his father, Henry IV, in 1098. During his reign, he initially allied with his father's opponents and forced Henry IV to abdicate in 1105, ruling in compliance with the imperial princes for five years.

In 1111, Henry V captured Pope Paschal II to secure his imperial coronation, shifting from joint rule with the princes to autocratic rule. He attempted to increase control over the church but eventually had to concede to the papacy in the Concordat of Worms in 1122, ending the Investiture Controversy.

Henry V died of disease on 23 May 1125 in Utrecht and was buried at Speyer Cathedral, with his heart and bowels interred at the Cathedral of Saint Martin, Utrecht. Upon his death, the Salian dynasty ended, and Lothair III succeeded him as Holy Roman Emperor.
