Henry Percy

Sir Henry Percy, also known as Hotspur, was a renowned English knight with a storied military career, serving as Warden of the East March and Lieutenant of the Duchy of Aquitaine. He earned his nickname from the Scots, a testament to his swift and aggressive approach to warfare. Knighted alongside future kings, Percy’s early promise as a military leader was evident, and his valor in battle was recognized by his appointment to the prestigious Order of the Garter at a young age.

Despite receiving royal favor and accruing substantial land and titles, Percy’s relationship with the monarchy was tumultuous. Initially supporting Henry Bolingbroke’s usurpation of King Richard II, Percy later found himself at odds with the new king, leading to his rebellion and death at aged 39 at the Battle of Shrewsbury.
