Sir Henry de Montfort was the son of Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester, and Eleanor of England, daughter of King John. He played a significant role alongside his father in the Second Barons’ War against King Henry III. His birth was celebrated by the English King Henry III, after whom he was named, reflecting the initially favorable relationship between his father and the king.
Despite the early ties with the monarchy, Henry opposed King Henry III during the Barons’ War. He was active in various military campaigns, including securing the Welsh border, sacking Worcester, and taking Gloucester. Henry’s leadership roles expanded after the Battle of Lewes, but his life was cut short at the Battle of Evesham, where he fell alongside his father.
Death: Died at the age of 26 during the Battle of Evesham, buried at Evesham Abbey.
