Guy de Montfort, Count of Nola

Guy de Montfort, Count of Nola, was born in 1244 as the son of Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester, and Eleanor of England. His life was marked by his participation in the Battle of Evesham in August 1265, where he fought against royalist forces and suffered serious wounds and capture. Following his capture, he was held at Windsor Castle until his escape in the spring of 1266, after which he joined his family in exile and served Charles of Anjou in Italy, distinguishing himself at the Battle of Tagliacozzo.

In 1271, in an act of revenge for the deaths of his father and brother, Guy, along with his brother Simon, murdered their cousin Henry of Almain in a church in Viterbo. This act led to their excommunication and became a notable event in history, referenced by Dante in his Inferno. Despite later serving Charles of Anjou again, Guy was captured in 1287 and died in a Sicilian prison. He married Margherita Aldobrandesca, the Lady of Sovana, with whom he had two daughters.
