Gunhilda of Denmark was born around 1020 to King Cnut the Great and Emma of Normandy. She was part of the House of Knýtlinga and had siblings including King Harthacnut and King Harold Harefoot. Around 1025, she moved to Germany as a child, where her engagement to Henry III was arranged as part of a diplomatic agreement between her father and the Holy Roman Empire to secure peaceful borders between the Danish Duchy of Schleswig and Imperial Holstein.
Gunhilda became Queen of Germany in 1036 upon her marriage to Henry III. She died on 18 July 1038 at the age of 17 or 18 and was buried at Limburg Abbey. Her husband, Henry III, continued to rule after her death.
