Geoffrey, Count of Eu

Geoffrey de Brionne 1st Count of Eu 1st Count of Brionne was a Norman noble in the late tenth and early eleventh centuries. He was the son of Duke Richard I of Normandy, born to an unnamed wife or concubine. In 996, his half-brother Richard II of Normandy created the county of Eu for Geoffrey as part of a strategy to grant titles to cadet family members.

The citadel of Eu, located near the English Channel, was important for the defense of Normandy and often targeted during conflicts. Geoffrey also received the castle of Brionne from Richard II, which was previously a ducal residence. He held Brionne for life, passing it to his son Gilbert, who succeeded him as Count of Eu and Count of Brionne.

Geoffrey died around 1010 and was buried in the Duchy of Normandy. His son Gilbert succeeded him in his titles.
