Ernest Augustus Elector of Hanover

Ernest Augustus was born on 20 November 1629 at Herzberg Castle near Göttingen. He became the Prince of Calenberg in 1679 and held the position until his death. In 1692, he was appointed as the ninth prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire. His rule also included the Prince-Bishopric of Osnabrück, which he governed from 1662 until his demise. Ernest Augustus was known for instituting primogeniture in his territories and for his role in the Great Turkish War alongside Leopold I. He married Sophia of the Palatinate in 1658, and they had several children, including George I of Great Britain. He passed away in 1698 at Herrenhausen Palace, Hanover.
