Elizabeth of York, Duchess of Suffolk

Elizabeth of York, Duchess of Suffolk, also known as Elizabeth Plantagenet, was the sixth child and third daughter of Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York, and Cecily Neville. Born into a family with royal connections, she was the sister of kings Edward IV and Richard III of England. Prior to February 1458, Elizabeth married John de la Pole, the eldest son of William de la Pole, 1st Duke of Suffolk, and Alice Chaucer.

Her father-in-law had been a significant political figure, serving as a key advisor to Henry VI before his downfall and execution in 1450. Elizabeth’s brother, Edward IV, later restored her husband to the title of Duke of Suffolk in 1463. She held the title of Duchess of Suffolk until her husband’s death around 1491/1492 and lived in Wingfield, Suffolk, where she was last mentioned alive in January 1503 and was buried in the church in Wingfield, Suffolk.
