Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon

Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon was born into British nobility and became Queen of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth from 11 December 1936 to 6 February 1952 as the wife of King George VI. Concurrently, she served as the last Empress of India until August 1947. Following her husband’s death, she was known as Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother to avoid confusion with her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II. Her early life was marked by education at home and a close encounter with the effects of World War I, during which she contributed to the war effort and experienced the loss and capture of her brothers. Her marriage to Prince Albert, Duke of York, who became King George VI, brought her into the royal spotlight, where she was recognized for her public service and positive demeanor.

Elizabeth’s role expanded significantly after her husband ascended to the throne following his brother’s abdication. She supported him through diplomatic tours and the challenges of World War II, maintaining a strong public presence that bolstered British morale.
