Eleanor, Countess of Bar

Eleanor of England, born on 18 June 1269 at Windsor Castle, was the eldest surviving daughter of King Edward I of England and Queen Eleanor of Castile. During her early years, while her parents were away on Crusade, she formed a close bond with her paternal grandmother, Eleanor of Provence. She shared a similar closeness with her ailing brother Henry. Initially betrothed to King Alfonso III of Aragon, the marriage never took place due to political complications and Alfonso’s death. Eleanor later married Count Henry III of Bar on 20 September 1293, with whom she had two children. She passed away on 29 August 1298 in Ghent and was interred at Westminster Abbey, though the precise location of her grave within the Abbey remains unknown.
