Edward of Norfolk, also known as Edward of Brotherton, was born around 1313 and was the only son of Thomas of Brotherton and Alice de Hales. His father was the eldest son of King Edward I by his second marriage, making Edward the grandson of the English monarch. Edward’s mother was the daughter of Sir Roger de Hales. He had two sisters and was married to Beatrice Mortimer in a grand ceremony attended by Edward III. Edward’s life was relatively short, as he died before 9 August 1334, without leaving any issue from his marriage.
