Edward Neville, 3rd Baron Bergavenny

Edward Neville, de facto 3rd (de jure 1st) Baron Bergavenny, was an English nobleman who died on 18 October 1476. He was the seventh son of Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland, and Joan Beaufort, the daughter of John of Gaunt and Katherine Swynford. In 1436, he married Elizabeth de Beauchamp, daughter of Richard de Beauchamp, 1st Earl of Worcester, and Isabel le Despenser, who was later recognized as de jure 3rd Baroness Bergavenny. This marriage produced four children.

Following his first wife’s death, Neville married Katherine Howard in 1448, with whom he had three daughters. His career included being knighted after 1426, serving as a justice of the peace for Durham in 1438, and captaining in Normandy in 1449. Summoned to Parliament in 1450 as ‘Edwardo Nevyll de Bergavenny,’ he was appointed to the Privy Council in 1454 and served as a commissioner of array and captain in Edward IV’s army, remaining loyal to Edward IV during the Wars of the Roses.
