Eadgyth

Eadgyth, also known as Edith of England, was born around 910 as a member of the House of Wessex. She was the daughter of King Edward the Elder and his second wife, Ælfflæd, making her a granddaughter of King Alfred the Great. Eadgyth spent her early years near Winchester and later moved to Germany at the request of King Henry the Fowler, where she married his son, Otto, in 930.

As queen consort from 936, Eadgyth was involved in state duties and was known for her charitable activities, often favoring monasteries and memorials to saints. She was instrumental in introducing the cult of Saint Oswald of Northumbria to Germany. Eadgyth accompanied Otto on his travels, although she did not partake in battles, and reconciled Otto with his mother in 941.

Eadgyth died unexpectedly in 946 at the age of 35 or 36 and was buried in Magdeburg Cathedral. Her husband, Otto, later married Adelaide of Italy in 951.
