Eadgifu of Wessex

Eadgifu of Wessex, also known as Edgifu or Ogive, was the daughter of Edward the Elder, King of Wessex and England, and his second wife Ælfflæd. She became Queen of the West Franks as the second wife of King Charles the Simple, whom she married between 917 and 919. Eadgifu was the mother of King Louis IV of France. In 923, after Charles was deposed and imprisoned, Eadgifu fled to England with her son to ensure his safety, where he was raised at the court of her half-brother, King Æthelstan of England.

Eadgifu returned to France with Louis in 936 when he was called back to be crowned King. She later retired to a convent in Laon. In 951, she was abducted and married by Herbert the Old, Count of Omois, which angered her son. Eadgifu died at Soissons on 26 December in an unknown year and is not recorded after 951.
