Cristina (daughter of Edward the Exile)

Cristina, daughter of Edward the Exile and Agatha, was born in the 1040s and was the sister of Edgar Ætheling and Saint Margaret of Scotland. She came to England with her family in 1057 from Hungary and later went into exile in Scotland at the court of Malcolm III. Before 1086, Cristina returned to England and became the abbess of Romsey Abbey in Hampshire, where she tutored her nieces Edith and Mary. Edith later testified that Cristina had veiled her to protect her from the Normans, although Edith claimed she never took holy vows.

Cristina's land holdings in Ulverley, Warwickshire, and Gloucestershire were recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. She likely died before 1100, as she did not give evidence at a conclave regarding Edith's marriage, and her nieces were transferred to Wilton Abbey before 1093.
