Constance of Normandy

Constance of Normandy was born between 1057 and 1061 in Normandy, the daughter of William the Conqueror and Matilda of Flanders. She was one of nine children and was named second among the daughters by William of Jumièges, though the exact order of birth is not specified. In 1086, her father arranged her marriage to Alan Fergant, Duke of Brittany, to secure peace on the Western border. Constance was known for her administrative skills, similar to her mother, and was described as both severe and considerate by different historians.

Constance died on 13 August 1090, allegedly poisoned by her husband's servants, and was buried at Église Saint-Melaine in Rennes. Her death marked the end of her tenure as Duchess consort of Brittany.
