Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz

Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, born Sophia Charlotte, served as Queen of Great Britain and Ireland following her marriage to King George III on 8 September 1761 until her death. She was also the Electress of Hanover before becoming Queen of Hanover on 12 October 1814. As a patron of the arts and an amateur botanist, she contributed to the expansion of Kew Gardens and introduced the Christmas tree tradition to Britain. Her marriage to George III produced 15 children, with 13 surviving to adulthood, including future monarchs George IV and William IV.
