Beatrice of England

Beatrice of England was born on 25 June 1242 in Bordeaux, France, as the second-eldest daughter of King Henry III of England and Eleanor of Provence. Her early life was affected by the difficulties of her father's reign and her mother's unpopularity in England. Her family arranged marriages to strengthen political alliances.

In 1260, at the age of seventeen, Beatrice married John de Dreux, the heir to the duchy of Brittany, at Saint-Denis. This marriage was part of her father's strategy to secure alliances, particularly with France, and it resulted in six children. Her marriage to John II also linked the Earldom of Richmond to the English crown, providing additional political leverage.

Beatrice of England died on 24 March 1275 in London, England, and was buried at Grey Friars Church in Greenwich, London. She passed away before her husband became the Duke of Brittany, and therefore she never held the title of Duchess of Brittany.
