Beatrice of England

Beatrice of England, born on 25 June 1242, was a member of the House of Plantagenet and the daughter of Henry III of England and Eleanor of Provence. Her childhood experienced both familial tragedies and the political challenges of her father’s reign. Despite the unpopularity of her mother among the English and the political turmoil of the times, she grew up in a loving environment close to her siblings.

Beatrice married John de Dreux, heir to the duchy of Brittany, on 22 January 1260, and they had six children. Her marriage was instrumental in forging an alliance with France and provided Henry III with political leverage in the region. Although she died on 24 March 1275 before her husband became Duke of Brittany, her union had lasting political significance, aiding her father’s efforts to maintain and strengthen his rule.
