Beatrice I, also known as Beatrice of Franconia, was born in Italy in 1037 as the only child of the Holy Roman Emperor Henry III and Gunhilda of Denmark. Her mother passed away about six months after her birth. Beatrice became Abbess of Gandersheim Abbey in 1043 and was appointed Princess-Abbess of Quedlinburg Abbey in 1044, a position she held until her death.
Beatrice I died on 13 July 1061 and was initially buried in the abbey church of Quedlinburg. After a fire in 1070, her remains were likely moved, and a lead casket believed to contain her bones has been preserved in Michaelstein Abbey since about 1161. She was succeeded by Adelheid II as Princess-Abbess of Quedlinburg.
Death: Died at age 23-24; buried in Quedlinburg Abbey, remains later moved to Michaelstein Abbey.
