Baldwin V, Count of Flanders

Baldwin V was Count of Flanders from 1035 until his death in 1067. Born into the House of Flanders, he was the son of Baldwin IV and Eleanora of Normandy. In 1028, Baldwin married Adela, daughter of King Robert II of France, and they had three children: Baldwin VI, Matilda, and Robert I.

During his reign, Baldwin V secured the union between Flanders and Hainaut through strategic marriage alliances. He served as co-regent for his nephew Philip I of France from 1060 to 1067. Baldwin maintained ties with the English monarchy, hosting Emma of Normandy in Bruges and later becoming the father-in-law to William the Conqueror.

Baldwin V died on 1 September 1067 at the age of 55 in Lille, Flanders. He was succeeded by his son, Baldwin VI.
