Baldwin III, Count of Flanders

Baldwin III, born around 940, was Count of Flanders and ruled the county in conjunction with his father, Arnulf I, from 958 until his death. His parents were Count Arnulf I of Flanders and Adele of Vermandois. Baldwin III married Matilda of Saxony around 961, with whom he had a son, Arnulf II.

He became co-ruler of Flanders in 958 and was influential in the development of the wool manufacturing industry in Ghent, as well as establishing markets in various towns across Flanders. Baldwin III passed away on 1 January 962 due to smallpox, after engaging in a campaign against the Normans. Posthumously, his son Arnulf II was placed under the guardianship of King Lothair of France by Arnulf I.
