Arthur II, born on 25 July 1261, was the Duke of Brittany from 1305 until his death in 1312. He was the eldest son of John II and Beatrice of England. As Duke, Arthur II was independent of the French crown and divided his duchy into eight administrative regions known as "battles." In 1309, he convened the first Estates of Brittany, marking the first time in French history that the third estate was represented.
Arthur II died on 27 August 1312 at Château de l'Isle in Saint Denis en Val and was buried in a marble tomb at the Cordeliers Convent in Vannes. His son, John III, succeeded him as Duke of Brittany.
