Amaury de Montfort was born in 1242 or 1243 as the third son of Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester, and Eleanor of England. He entered the priesthood early in life, holding various ecclesiastical positions such as Treasurer of York Cathedral and canon in several cities including Rouen and London. Amaury also served as a papal chaplain.
Following the deaths of his father and brother at the Battle of Evesham in 1265, Amaury fled to France with his family. He pursued studies in medicine and theology at the University of Padua. In 1275, while accompanying his sister Eleanor to Wales, Amaury was captured by mercenaries under King Edward I and held in Corfe and Sherborne Castles until his release in 1282.
Amaury de Montfort eventually renounced his clerical career and became a knight. He died in Italy, possibly after 1301. There is no record of his succession.
